All-Ireland Conference for Doctoral Researchers in Education The School of Education, University College Dublin and the School of Education, Queen’s University are to jointly host the fifth all Ireland conference for Doctoral students in Education in May 2013. The conference aims to provide a forum for doctoral students from all over Ireland to come together in a supportive environment to present and discuss their research and extend their understanding of advanced research in education. The conference format consists of paper and poster presentation, as well as round table sessions and has been generously supported by SCOTENS and the ESAI through the provision of travel bursaries. The conference is eager to attract submissions from those pursing doctoral studies on all aspects of education, and from across all higher education institutions on the island of Ireland. It is especially useful for encouraging the formation of professional links among educators and researchers in education who are at the earlier phases of their research careers.

Children of the school age are looking for different ways to express themselves, to form an idea of who they want to become in the future. In order to help them to do so parents search for after -school activities such as sports, drama classes, music classes, dance lessons, art lessons etc. Those clubs are usually very expensive and have long waiting lists and unfortunately in the current economical climate only a few can afford to send their children for such activities. This is where we come in. We would like to offer the children in the area an opportunity to express themselves through art, drama, music, movement and photography at affordable prices. We would like to create an after-school facility where the children could spend time in a creative interesting way giving parents a peace of mind and no need to search for different clubs and arrange transport, collection of their children as they will have everything in one place. Our after-school will help the children to develop their interests in many aspects of life. We set up a curriculum for every child to find something they are interested in and which will give them an opportunity to develop their skills, become self confident and a well rounded person. Our after-school will have plenty of activities carefully designed for the age of children in our care who are looking for new ways to express themselves. That is why we created a special program which is called: “ Express Yourself hour”. The “express yourself hour” is a one hour block of activities different each day of the week when the children express themselves through various activities: Mondays-art, Tuesdays- music, Wednesdays-drama, Thursday-movement, Fridays-photography. The sessions will be child led with plenty of opportunities for the children to suggest their own interests in the subject, for example if the child is interested in rap music we will encourage them to do the research on the subject, show of their favourite tracks the way that the child will feel that he or she is leading the project while the teacher will fill in the gaps with preparing missing information and broadening children's knowledge on the subject in a fun and interesting way. The children will be encouraged to talk about their interest and the teacher will be providing interesting and unusual activities and information. That will boost kids confidence and self esteem and also promote a healthy attitude and respect towards different opinions, styles, trends, tastes, fashions. We want the children to feel important and heard, we want to show them different aspects of life and broaden their horizons. Our curriculum will also include other important aspects such as: • care of the environment by promoting recycling, saving water and energy, participating in events such as “tidy towns” “earth cleaning day” etc, educating on the importance of caring for the environment on a daily basis while doing everyday activities ( recycling in the class, doing art from recycling materials, not wasting water, switching off lights etc) • promoting healthy lifestyle, personal hygiene, healthy eating, making smart choices • promoting tolerance towards other cultures, traditions and customs, religion and believes, disabilities • developing social skills • supporting local community by participating in local events and festivals

The Graduate Students' Union or Aontas na nIarchéimithe in Irish is an independent body which represents graduate students in Trinity College, Dublin. All graduate students of the College, including postgraduate research students and those on higher degree and higher diploma courses, automatically become members of the Union upon registering with the College. Although the GSU works in partnership with the Students' Union, the GSU is the only postgraduate representative organisation recognised by College. The day-to-day running of the Union is organised by an elected Executive, which consists of the Officers of the Union--the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Events officer and one Officer from each Faculty--plus three additional Faculty Representatives (one from each of the three Faculties).

Sharon Leavy is its current director since 2010 and she is taking the college to its next level. Sharon is a former student of the college and on completion of her course she continued her training with Steiner. Steiner is a large multinational company that provides beauty services on luxury cruise liners. Sharon then worked, as a beauty therapist, with Steiner. Steiner recognised her talent and she was quickly promoted to Spa Manager. Sharon is an ambitious and highly motivated person and progressed higher to train as an educator in beauty. Sharon found a love of teaching and is now bringing her international expertise to the education of future beauty therapists here in Ireland. Given all her achievements to date, she is an ideal mentor for anyone wishing to train as a beauty therapist.

Eirbyte has been living off-grid for over ten years in Co. Leitrim, the base from where we have been installing and designing renewable energy systems across Ireland. it is believed that Eirbyte were the first Irish system designers and installers whose home and business has always relied solely on off grid renewable energy. We had the first carbon neutral website in Ireland back in 2001 when eirbyte.com went live, despite others now claiming to be the first. This has led to us setting up www.irishsolar.net web hosting and design services using renewable energy to help combat the carbon footprint of having a web presence. In 2008 we wrote two FETAC national course modules on Renewable Energy. We also helped to structure and teach the first VEC full time course on renewable energy and sustainable building practises.
