ICPPD are offering a one year Foundation Course in Athlone and Galway in September 2011. This 100 hour programme is for anyone wishing to find out more about counselling training and is a stepping stone to further training. Participants often describe this year as a life changing event. After the year, participants have an understanding and a sense of the commitment required from them if they wish to proceed to a professional qualificationâ€.
ICPPD are offering a three year part time Diploma, a Professional Qualification, in Athlone and Galway commencing September 2011. Because of Tom and Christine’s experience and dedication to the profession of counselling and Psychotherapy in Ireland, they have designed a programme that meets the criteria of IACP. The Diploma being offered is similar to traditional main stream counselling programmes offered in most training colleges, with the addition of training and modules in body, mind, spirit, and creativity, hence the word “holistic†which is used on their promotional literature.
This training programme is a balance of theory and practice and is delivered by lecturers who are experts in their fields, adhere to codes of ethics and appreciate the importance of life experiences and self awareness. According to Christine “there are two persons at the core of training, one is the counsellor and the other, the individual who is the main focus of all our work, the client. I hope that we never lose the focus of what we are about, which is counselling, that is being a compassionate, empathetic, self aware professional who has the ability and experience to create an environment, and a relationship with another person, so that person is valued, accepted, supported and empowered on their path towards wholeness, healthy choices and wellbeingâ€.
