We aim to produce innovative thinkers that have the ability to create original film productions, enabled through a growing and enhanced understanding of digital technology.
Our vast resource of digital cameras, film making equipment and post production facilities will assist this blend of contemporary technical skill and techniques, which will inform and prepare students for a future with creative technology.
What you do
Digital technology has had a great impact on the visual entertainment industry. Digital techniques have now removed many of the barriers between traditional film, video and computer systems, creating a new platform for digital production. Common digital processes across the different media have opened the door for creative filmmakers to produce original and distinctive work to cinema exhibition standards at much lower budgets than traditionally possible.
The digital film-making component of the course studies the theory and practice of digital film-making and is designed to be extremely hands-on and practical, with students producing a number of individual and group film based projects in each trimester from a variety of modules. These programmes are designed to contribute to a high quality portfolio of work at graduation.
The MSc Digital Feature Film Production requires evidence of the ability to achieve advanced production standards. Supervisors with feature film production experience will assist students in achieving their aims of creating a full-length film. Students will clearly demonstrate their increased knowledge of technology and their understanding of feature film creation and marketing and distribution strategies. In order to achieve these outcomes, the degree is reliant on a production crew functioning as an autonomous and independent unit. It is fundamental to the outcome of this award that all stages of your progression throughout each module, is focused on the production of work that advances your skills and the film crews requirements for the final feature film.
Your work throughout the duration of this MSc programme will require a significant element of independent development and research, allied with group and individual project work assessments as required. Along with your ongoing assignment work you will attend formal lectures offered by film academics, expert practioners, industry strategists and key figures from the world of film and broadcasting in Ireland and abroad.
Course modules will be supported through Blackboard, our virtual learning space.
Students will have full library access and lending rights through the Dublin Business School, Aungier Street campus.
Additional Opportunities
Students will have the option of undertaking an optional industry visit to London in the second trimester of the course to visit and make connections with key industry strategists, distributors, sales agents and post production facilities.

As well as providing students with the opportunity to meet key industry professionals from around the world students will be able to observe real film pitches for sales and distribution.
Student will have access to key industry events and panels at a selection of major Irish film festivals. Students will be encouraged to take advantage of the additional learning and networking opportunities offered at these events.
