Ballybay Recreation Centre has now re-opened under knew management. David McGregor of Era-Fit Training is the new manager of the newly opened Leisure Centre. The centre has a long and successful history in the town of Ballybay and David would like to see its old success revitalised and bring back what was, one of the best indoor facilities in County Monaghan. The centre can cater for a number of sports, classes, programmes and activities. It is open every week day from 5pm until 10.pm and at the weekends from 10am to 4pm. Facilities Include: Full size basketball court, with 2 half courts. 3 x badminton courts Indoor soccer court 35m x 25m Full sized Volley ball court 100m x 50m Outdoor Gaelic Field *NEW* 15m x 15m Dance studio The centre has also got a new cardio gym section, free weight section and stretching room. The club was founded in 1868 and is located at Sydney Parade, Park Avenue, just outside the old village of Sandymount in the prosperous Dublin suburb of Ballsbridge.

While the name Ashbourne Cricket Club was first established in 2013, the Ashbourne area has a history of cricket. From the late 1800's up until around 1910, there were cricket teams scattered across various parts of the locality, such as Kilbrew, Muckerstown, Ratoath, Ballymadun, Donaghmore etc. These teams were mostly comprised of local workers/farmers that would have worked for local lords/landowners. These landowners would have competed against other local landowners in cricket. Ashbourne Cricket Club is aiming to be up and running by 2014 playing various friendly matches throughout the season. By 2015 we hope to fully affiliated with the Leinster Cricket Union and competing in the Leinster Cricket League. Currently, Ashbourne C.C. are trying to identify and secure a playing area in the locality as well as seeking assistance in starting off from Cricket Ireland and the Leinster Cricket Union. We will soon be advertising in Ashbourne and surrounding areas looking for members of all ages/experience/gender. Keep an eye on the facebook site for any developments with Ashbourne C.C.
