Carve Programme 2013

Carve Programme 2013

1 Flood Street, Gaillimh ,
The programme will enable Irish Outdoor Activity Instructors to spend two weeks in the Chamonix valley in the French Alps working and living alongside their French counterparts gaining a valuable insight into the way Adventure Centres are run in France. Applicants from the selection process were narrowed down to two groups. The successful candidates in these groups are from VEC Outdoor education Centres throughout Ireland. The participating instructors are skilled not alone in the technical delivery of an outdoor activity for example kayaking, hill walking, rock climbing but in the delivery of education through the activity. The participants specialise in developing life skills through adventure activities and very often work not just with outdoor activity enthusiasts but with youth at risk groups or groups with disabilities, addiction and in some cases elite athletes. Following on from the previous two programmes in its development of relations between the Irish and French centres, candidates will increase their levels of spoken French and their technical skills with systems and techniques will improve the way in which they work in Ireland. In addition to observing French work practices participants will also spend some of each day learning to ski/snowboard and/or improving on their existing skiing skills.

Our own invented innovative workshops in music & dance, fitness & drama. “We promote and encourage problem solving & only offer help & suggestions when a child is having difficulty & need our help”. Why Choose Montessori? The Children work with specifically designed equipment which is graded in difficulty, self-correcting and designed for success to instil a love of learning. A record book is kept for each child to record their learning progress. It shows photographs of them at work or at play and describes the learning involved. This book is presented to the parent at the end of year graduation ceremony. The graduation ceremony takes place at the end of June. Your child will accept his certificate from Little Scholars wearing full gown and cap. IADT Student Union

IADT Student Union

IADT Dun Laoghaire, Kill Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin ,
A very big welcome one and all to IADT! The student union is at your beck and call, and supplies a generalised student service at ground level. We are made up of current students elected by you and are an independent body from the college. This ensures that students have full confidence in raising any issue through us whether it’s a direct complaint at the college’s performance or something of a more personal nature, either of which will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence. The students of IADT are our only interest, and we represent you on many fronts such as education; health; grants; funding; development; the list goes on… The student union office is a service in itself. Situated adjacent to the rear of the Chapel the offices door is open daily to supply students with relevant information on topics such as student welfare, equality and education issues. We also run a small stationary shop and offer the use of board games, video games, table games, television and a cheap photocopying service. Throughout the year we offer students financial assistance. Call in and talk to us about the Childcare Fund, Student Assistance Fund, the Welfare Loan Scheme, and how to apply for the maintenance grant. Our job also mandates us to represent the student body on various internal and external committees and working groups. We continually support and run our own campaigns on any important issue from finance to sexual health throughout the year. In IADT’s SU there are (Academic Year 2012/2013): 4 Full time Officers: President – Marie Farrell Deputy President/Welfare Officer – Emma Penney Deputy President/Education Officer – Lisa Murphy Deputy President for Commercial and Social Enterprises - Sean Gallagher 1 Part-time Officer: Clubs/ Societies Officer – Eoin Dixon Murphy The most important system of communication the union has with the student body is Class Rep Council. Class rep councils organised by the union in which student members from each class and from every year can air their views discuss possible actions and influence us to give you better representation. It is absolutely vital that each class democratically elects their choice of representative and that class reps make themselves known to their class mates and inform them as to what they can do. The Student Union also publishes a monthly newspaper, maintain our website and various web pages and manage the student recreational space, “The Chapel”, providing weekly entertainment and arranging big social events like Freshers Week, Rag Week, the Formal Ball, Halloween Ball, Christmas ball….
