This included Hardware,Grocery, Drapery Shops etc. The staff worked a five & a half day week. This all changed in 1970 when it was agreed that staff would work a 5 day week. Monday was the day that was chosen to slose business's so the working week ran from Tuesday to Saturday. The inaugural Limerick Jazz Festival took place on the weekend of September 28 - 30th 2012, and featured exclusive performances by the Joe Locke/Geoffrey Keezer Group from the USA and the Lianne Carroll Trio from the UK. Irish performers included the Black Magic Big Band and Crisis Point. Limerick has the most active jazz scene in Ireland outside Dublin. Limerick Jazz Society has been bringing outstanding jazz performances to the city since the 1980s and Limerick Jazz Workshop has been providing jazz education since 2007. The festival is being staged by Limerick Jazz Society and is supported by the Arts Council and Shannon Development. More information is available at www.limerickjazzfestival.com.
