Kilrush Local History Group was founded at Kilrush Community School in 2009 by teacher Laura Hogan and students Siobhan Behan, Leah Brew, Mark Glynn, Niamh Mulqueen, Ruth O’Dea, Kerry Prendeville, Ciara Purcell and Laura Ryan. The group aims to raise awareness of the history of Kilrush in both the school itself and of course the wider community. Our email address is KilrushLocalHistoryGroup@yahoo.com. Our Facebook page intends to give information and encourage discussion on the history of this fascinating Irish town, illustrated with exciting and previously unseen photographs of the town and its people. It is also intended to help people who are researching the history of their own family: if you have a query about an ancestor with links to Kilrush, please post it on our Facebook wall, where a host of local experts will be delighted to help! We are delighted to also act as the host page for the new Kilrush and District Historical Society, which was launched in Kilrush on Friday, May 18th 2012. The gallery will also be hosting workshops and private tuition and attending Art Fairs both in Ireland and abroad. The opening exhibition, "Out of Darkness" starts Saturday 15th June 2013 and continues until Saturday 29th June. Special preview 15th and 16th June, 11am to 5 pm.
