Our focus is very much Person Centred in providing our services to meet the needs of the individual and in helping them to live more independent lives. About us Roscommon Disability Support Group (R.S.G) is a long established Service Provider which was founded in1989. R.S.G is a community and voluntary organisation providing services to people with disabilities and older people throughout County Roscommon. In addition, we have a wide range of other services and activities on offer at the fully accessible Resource Centre in Derrane which can be availed of by the wider community. The Board of Management operates on a voluntary basis, and meets monthly. The day to day business of the company is managed by the Company Manager and staff. HISTORY 1989 Roscommon Disability Support Group (R.S.G), an innovative self-help group was established, by people with disabilities for people with disabilities. In a very short time thereafter, it was found that there was a need to develop the organisation to also become a Service Provider, which has gone from strength to strength by virtue of demand. The organisation’s Service Provision covers County Roscommon and surrounding areas. 1995 The Group formed a limited company limited by guarantee, and attained charitable status. It operates as a properly constituted company and is known as the Roscommon Disability Support Group. The voluntary organisation still operates with some of its founder members. The range of services have expanded over the years to include Service Provision/Support and Information Service to older people and children as well as people with disabilities, families, carers and the wider community. RSG has developed from a growing need within the community and services have increased as more and more state funding became available. 1996 Roscommon Disability Support Group formed an Independent Living Service to promote independence for people of all ages and abilities to enable them to become more participating members of the wider community. 2006 - 2012 Projects 2006 The RSG Flexible Learning College was founded at the Resource Centre and provides person centred training to people of all abilities. Our Accessible Bus Transport Service was also set up. 2009 Nuala’s Garden and Horticulture Centre were established and are dedicated to the memory of the late Nuala Cunnane, a founder member of RSG. 2010 24/7 Care Service was set up on not-for profit basis to provide care services in the absence of state funding or until state funding becomes available. RSG Flexible Learning College became a FETAC Accredited Provider. 2012 Roscommon Disability Support Group became the Number One, HSE Approved provider for Enhanced Homecare Packages 2012 to provide Services for the Older Person's in County Roscommon. 2013 The recently built D.A.L.E Centre is in now operation and marks another expansion of RSG. The Centre is fully accessible and contains training facilities including a fully equipped accessible kitchen. This project was grant aided by the National Lottery and by fund raising. The objective of the new centre is to assist participants to acquire or develop skills to enable them live more independently and to be able to become more involved in their community. People with disabilities and all abilities will be facilitated through Independent Living Skills Training Programmes and other activities to choose what they wish to do or get involved in i.e. further training, employment, social activities. These programmes are person centred and the individual will be able to work at their own pace and in accordance with their wishes. Accessible Transport will be available by arrangement.
