June Bug Prints
June Kelly is a craftswoman who’s pretty sure she knows where it all began: “Oh yes, it was Mary Fitzgerald, she had me at ‘How do you do’, so she did.†Ah, How Do You Do; for children of the 80s, RTE’s unwelcome interlude between The Racoons and Captain Planet – for June, it was trance-inducing craft craic. Fashioning unusable objects from, well, unusable objects, generally toilet paper inserts, June was never happier. And if her boundless enthusiasm was not entirely matched by immense talent levels, it seemed entirely unimportant at the time.
And it might have ended there, this crafty leaning, perhaps to be replaced by a passion for Bros or a desire to lounge around drinking Soda Stream all day... but, no. For the flame ignited by Mary Fitzgerald was soon to be fanned to greater levels with the arrival of that ultimate 1980s craft material – yes, you guessed it. Fancy paper. Ooooooh! Buying it, swapping it, talking about it, stroking it; fancy paper sent June into a hypnotic state of sheer euphoria.
A love of quotes was to follow in her romantic, hormone-fuelled teenage days and while, to the uninitiated, there may have seemed no logical way to fuse these two passions, luckily June has never been too concerned with logic. And so, the seeds were sown for June Bug. Crafts and quotes, quotes and crafts ... hand-stamped on VERY fancy paper and then embellished with a frame for even more fanciness. How do you do indeed!
