,
For the third summer in a row, Crossroads is sponsoring a pro-life walk around Ireland starting in Dublin on Monday, June 10th and ending in Dublin on Saturday, July 6th. The walk will cover over 1000km, circling the island with weekend stops in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Derry and Belfast. The group will take turns walking each day and will also attend daily Mass and pray the rosary as they walk.
Crossroads began sponsoring walks across America in 1995 as a response to the words of Blessed John Paul II at World Youth Day in Denver in 1993 when the Holy Father spoke directly to the youth of the world about the need for them to respond to the Churches call to help Build a Culture of Life. "The church needs your energies, your enthusiasm, your youthful ideas, in order to make the Gospel of life penetrate the fabric of society, transforming people's hearts and the structures of society in order to create a civilization of true justice and love." (Blessed John Paul II, World Youth Day Denver, 1993) The Holy Father encouraged the youth in this mission by saying "In your hands, carry the cross of Christ. On your lips, the words of life. In your hearts, the saving grace of the Lord."
For the past 17 years, Crossroads has sponsored pro-life walks in response to Blessed John Paul II challenge. Along with the walk in Ireland, Crossroads is also sponsoring 4 walks across the United States and 1 walk across Canada. Over 650 college students have participated on the walks throughout the past 17 years and through their efforts they have been able to save lives and change hearts.
