NCBI Ballinasloe
The National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that offers support and services nationally to people with eyesight problems. NCBI was set up in 1931 and offers many services to over 15,000 people. The aim of the NCBI is to promote the full independence of people who are blind or vision impaired.
About 5% of people using NCBI’s services are complet...ely blind, while 95% have varying degrees of vision.
Other services that NCBI offers around the country include:
Practical and emotional support;
A low vision service;
Guidance on choosing aids and appliances;
Mobility training;
Daily living skills;
Peer counselling and professional counselling;
Employment advice;
A national Braille, large print and audio library;
Advice on assistive technology; and
Advice to public and private organisations on user-friendly services for people who are blind of vision impaired.
