The Athy Resource Centre is located in St. John's Lane, in Athy, County Kildare. The Centre employs one full-time Supervisor, Mary Maguire, and a part-time staff staff of 18. Formed in the late 1980's the Centre part of the County Kildare Centres for the Unemployed Organization which comprises of Resource Centres in Athy, Leixlip and Newbridge.

October 2004 will see the completion of much needed enterprise space in Athy geared specifically to the requirements of new and emerging businesses. Athy Community Enterprise Centre is a new development of 20 commercial units for let. Situated in a growing industrial area, within walking distance of Athy town centre, makes this a superb location for new and emerging businesses from a broad range of sectors. Especially designed to meet the needs of small and medium sized businesses, there are eight dedicated offices starting at 220sq ft divided over two floors and at ground level, twelve workshop units starting from 600 sq ft with room to expand as your business grows for let in this managed campus. Athy Community Enterprise Centre is an initiative of the Athy Investment Development and Employment Forum, managed by an independent company, Athy Community Enterprise Company Ltd, which is run on a not for profit basis. The company wish to acknowledge the assistance of Enterprise Ireland, Kildare County Enterprise Board, Kildare County Council, Athy Town Council and the business community of Athy, through their representatives Athy Chamber of Commerce for financial support for the construction of this project.

Having grown from a 12th century Anglo-Norman settlement, the town now with a population of 10,000 approx., rests nestled between the main arteries of the M7 and M9 motorways. This ideal positioning, coupled with a frequent Bus & Rail services has assisted Athy in attracting many large scale events such as the National Ploughing Championships to the area on numerous occasions in recent times. Athy is the perfect stop-off point for those traveling the Grand Canal or Barrow Navigation, as it sits on the intersection of both systems. In addition, it is the perfect location for those wishing to moor their vessels long-term, as uniquely, it is not subject to the new Extended Mooring Permit (EMP) recently introduced by Waterways Ireland. The EMP, which costs €156, now applies to all boats mooring long-term on the Royal Canal, Grand Canal and Barrow Navigation. Athy’s mooring facilities which lie just 400 meters north of the Grand Canal and Barrow Navigation meeting point and therefore do not come under the remit of Waterways Ireland and are not subject to the new Bye-Laws. As a result, any boat owner wishing to avail of mooring facilities long-term, can do so free of charge in Athy. The 1st Annual "Rugby Camp-Out" will be held in Athy Rugby Club on the 20th of April 2013, including Blitzes for U10 & U11 Teams, Fun Team-Building Activities and an optional overnight Camp-Out under the guidance of experienced Campers.
