Only meters from the seashore on a private road, Achill Shore View nestles on a quiet private lane off the spectacular Atlantic Drive, a short distance to Achill Sound's shops, pubs, supermarket and Catholic church. Achill Sound is also where the very popular Great Western Greenway Cycle & Walking Path begins and can be followed all the way to the busy town of Westport.
Achill Shore View lies in a haven of tranquility - you can’t even hear the traffic on the Atlantic Drive - with all the amenities for an adventurous, exciting, and entertaining holiday very close by.
On entering this delightful architect-designed home you will be wowed by its wonderful feeling of spaciousness with cathedral ceilings and clever open-plan layout.
This unique house boasts really spectacular views on all sides and has a way of lulling people into deep relaxation. Its main living areas of kitchen, dining room and lounge are open-plan. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large double sink, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, plenty of storage and a semi-professional Rangemaster cooker with seven gas rings, a grill and two electric ovens. A large utility area with a separate washing machine and clothes dryer and a utility sink are just off the kitchen. Both diningroom and lounge have double height ceilings, wrap-around windows and patio doors onto the large decking area.
There are three double rooms (two with king size beds) and one twin room on the ground floor with the master bedroom having an en-suite walk-in shower room. The ground floor bathroom has a power shower and Jacuzzi bath. Upstairs is another bathroom with an insulated deep Japanese soaking bath - large enough for two - and is ideal for salt or seaweed soaks as the water maintains its temperature for a long time. The large bright attic room can be used for additional living or sleeping space and has a sofa and two comfortable single trundle beds with full size regular mattresses.
Sitting on approx 1.5 acres with lawn to the front and east side of the property, the south facing garden has been preserved as wild bogland. Natural bogland plants, animals and birds frequent this wild garden - hares, nesting skylarks, a pair of pheasants that return annually, a local heron and a kite. There is also a large Labyrinth and a "Faerie Ring" cut out of the bogland garden.
PETS ARE ALLOWED at Achill Shore View, provided they are properly house-trained. To the west of the garden adjacent to the garage is a large secure dog run with a kennel. This dog run is visible from the kitchen, dining room and lounge. Pets are welcome indoors in the common areas but MOST DEFINITELY NOT in bedrooms.
The area is agricultural and sheep and cattle roam freely beyond the gate.
Achill Shore View is situated only 200 metres from the shore and at low tide the shallows offer opportunities for collecting mussels, razor fish and periwinkles or harvesting the local seaweed for cooking or bathing. This shore area is more suited to paddling and walking than swimming due to strong tidal currents. Seals can often be seen swimming in the currents.
Just 2 kilometres away along the Atlantic Drive is the beautiful Achill Secret Garden (open to the public) and a short distance further is a castle of Granuaile, the infamous Pirate Queen. Beyond this again are two delightful small harbours where boats can be organised for trips to Achill Beg, (a smaller Island that is definitely worth a visit) and Clare Island. This whole seascape is part of the spectacular Atlantic Drive. Towards the end of this loop which offers one extraordinary vista after another is the Minaun Drive. This steep climb by bicycle, car or on foot is not to be missed as it is the only place on the island where you have a birds eye view of the entire landscape from Clew Bay to the mountains of North Mayo.
Every room of this property boasts impressive views of sea and mountains - a deeply relaxing and very enjoyable place to be.
