Made In West Cork

Made In West Cork

Forenaught, Skibbereen ,
Raising the profile of the wonderful products, crafts and food which abounds in West Cork, is the newly launched Made In West Cork www.madeinwestcork.ie which featured on TV3’s The Morning Programme on Thursday 30 May. If you’re passing through The Loop in Cork airport, look out for the MadeInWestCork stand which stocks what it says on the tin, West Cork products. You’ll find beautiful handmade, hand painted and signed porcelain ornaments and figures from Abbey Crafts, Courtmacsherry; from Gosling Games of Clonakilty, recipe cards, cup cake puzzles and car cookie puzzles, Carol Gilbert’s photographs, all scenic views of West Cork and some of the locally designed Tiny Towns range, models of Skibbereen, Kinsale, Clonakilty, Cork City, Ballydehob and Schull. On the food side there’s Seymours Shortbread biscuit tins. Everything is easy to take on board and is an authentic gift from West Cork. The inspiration for a range of local products to be available either as a memento of a visit to West Cork for a tourist or for a gift to take to friends and relatives, came when Carol Gilbert travelled abroad in 2011. Each time she was heading home to Ireland she looked for something made in the country she was visiting and found it quite difficult to find authentic mementoes. This led her to approach the buyers in Cork airport so that visitors to West Cork could take a memento made in the region home with them. The MadeInWestCork stand has been up and running since last November and there’s also a stand in the West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen. Some MadeInWestCork products will shortly be available in Shannon airport. For a wider selection visit the www.madeinwestcork.ie website, with more products being added regularly.
