Animal Hospital Kilcoole (AHK) is a specialised small animal veterinary practice. It opened at the beginning of March 2009. AHK is owned and run by veterinary surgeon Gail Nic Eoghain and veterinary nurse Shane Mc Dermott. Both had worked in veterinary practice for over ten years before establishing their own clinic. As lifelong pet owners themselves they share a vision of a companion animal hospital providing exemplary patient care and client service. Animal Hospital Kilcoole strives to embody that vision. After inspection by the Veterinary Council of Ireland, the premises have been accredited as a Registered Veterinary Hospital. Under the practice accreditation scheme this is the highest level attainable. The practice is located in the Whitethorn Centre in Kilcoole village (beside Tesco) and has ample free parking on its doorstep. On entering their bright and spacious reception and waiting area you will be welcomed by friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. To accommodate their clients’ busy schedules, AHK offers convenient opening hours: 8:30 am to 7pm (8pm Monday & Thursday) and 9am to 3pm on Saturdays. A dedicated emergency service is provided outside those hours A comprehensive range of health care services are provided under one roof for all small animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, small furry pets, birds and reptiles. Animal Hospital Kilcoole tailors a health care programme for each pet, through every stage of their life. Our Team Veterinary Surgeon Gail Nic Eoghain MVB is the principal veterinary surgeon at Animal Hospital Kilcoole. She qualified from University College Dublin in 1999 and worked for a mixed practice in the West of Ireland for 18 months before moving to the UK to focus on companion animal veterinary medicine and surgery. In 2004 she returned to Ireland and continued her small animal focus in a general practice and an emergency clinic before setting up Animal Hospital Kilcoole in 2009. Gail enjoys the daily challenge inherent in modern veterinary practice and spending time with her patients. She loves keeping up to date with developments in medicine and surgery, and is currently studying towards a further qualification in small animal medicine. Her other special interests include small pets, exotics and dermatology. To keep her occupied at home she has several of her own pets: Robin the dog, Annie, Tommy and Steven the cats and even Benny the bunny who all live together in (relative) harmony! Veterinary Nurse Shane Mc Dermott RVN is the principal nurse. Coming from a farming background and working in a pet shop as a teenager, he has always been involved with animals and started nursing in 2000 in a mixed practice in Co. Mayo. Two years later he moved to England to pursue a career in small animal practice and qualified from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2003. In 2004 he returned to Ireland and worked in various small animal practices in the Dublin area, including an emergency clinic, until establishing Animal Hospital Kilcoole in 2009. His greatest professional interests are the care and husbandry of exotic species and canine and feline behaviour and canine training. To this end he is completing a degree in animal behaviour to complement previous courses, as well as participating in continuous professional development in all aspects of veterinary care. He offers behavioural consultations for a wide range of problems. He has 2 dogs at home, Delphi and Carly, as well as 2 bearded dragons and fish who reside at the practice. Receptionists/ Nursing Assistants Nicola Kelly is a Kilcoole local and the latest addition to the team. She started in May 2012 after obtaining a diploma in animal healthcare. She is currently working on the “Hill’s Nutrition Advisor” qualification and is looking forward to continuing her career in animal care. Nicola loves getting to know patients and helping with any queries. A lifetime pet owner, she currently has 3 rabbits(Boy, Girl and Freckle), 2 dogs (Jodie and Bailey), Peter the cat and Sparky the bearded dragon.
