Meditation The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation, our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we will experience a purer and purer form of happiness. Eventually, we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances. By training in meditation, we create an inner space and clarity that enables us to control our mind regardless of the external circumstances. Gradually we develop mental equilibrium, a balanced mind that is happy all the time, rather than an unbalanced mind that oscillates between the extremes of excitement and despondency. If we train in meditation systematically, eventually we will be able to eradicate from our mind the delusions that are the causes of all our problems and suffering. In this way, we will come to experience a permanent inner peace, known as "liberation" or "nirvana". Then, day and night in life after life, we will experience only peace and happiness. Reiki Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma. Reflexology There are over 7000 nerve endings in the feet. Often mistaken for a foot massage, the ancient art of reflexology accesses these nerve endings which are linked to every organ and system of the body. Through skillful manipulation a reflexologist can help to unblock the flow of energy in organs and rebalance entire systems. Reflexology is a complementary therapy, that is, it is used in conjunction with conventional medicine to assist in the body’s recovery from certain diseases and illnesses. It does not diagnose or cure. It is particularly useful for stress related conditions as it helps to discharge the negative effects of stress and stimulate the body’s own healing. There is general acceptance that illness and disease do not occur ‘out of the blue’ nor can they be solely attributed to a virus or bacteria. The reality is, we do not simply ‘catch the flu’ from someone else. When our immune system is depleted below the level of resistance required to successfully fight a disease then we succumb and become ill. Reflexology is a renewal and maintenance programme for the body. It not only aids recovery but helps the body to maintain health. It is not necessary to have a ‘symptom’ to benefit from reflexology. Holistic Massage What is Holistic Massage ? Holistic massage is a combination of various movements used to manipulate muscles through the application of pressure to either soothe or stimulate the whole body. It aims to balance the “whole” person and the effects will vary with each individual. The technique is based on the Swedish system and can be used for relaxation, stimulation or rehabilitation of the whole body or part of it.
