Carve Programme
Entering it's fourth year, the CARVE programme enables Irish Outdoor Activity Instructors to spend two weeks in the Chamonix valley in the French Alps working and living alongside their French counterparts gaining a valuable insight into the way Adventure Centres are run in France.
Applicants from the selection process were narrowed down to 6 groups of 4 participants. The successful candidates in these groups are from Outdoor Education providers throughout Ireland.
The participating instructors are skilled not alone in the technical delivery of an outdoor activity for example kayaking, hill walking, rock climbing but in the delivery of education through the activity. The participants specialise in developing life skills through adventure activities and very often work not just with outdoor activity enthusiasts but with youth at risk groups or groups with disabilities, addiction and in some cases elite athletes.
Following on from the previous three programmes in its development of relations between the Irish and French centres, candidates will increase their levels of spoken French and their technical skills with systems and techniques will improve the way in which they work in Ireland. In addition to observing French work practices participants will also spend some of each day learning to ski/snowboard and/or improving on their existing skiing skills.
