Working with wood and creating furniture has been a passion of mine from a very early age. I studied furniture design and cabinet making for a year and followed it up by studying furniture design and manufacture in the renowned furniture college in letterfrack, co Galway. Since then I worked with one of the most respected furniture designer/makers in Ireland from where I gained an invaluable insight into designing and making bespoke handcrafted furniture,.
In September 2009 I established Shane Tubrid, Furniture By Design from where I work building a portfolio of Collectable, bespoke one-of-a-kind furniture , limited edition pieces as well as interior fit-outs with the aim of pushing the boundaries of limitation in furniture design and making.
I work with both private and corporate clients to execute creativity, innovativeness and personality in each piece of furniture.
I also produce turned work which tends to be more functional objects rather than non-functional art, these include platters, fruit and salad bowls candleholders etc mainly sculpted from native hardwood, these can be commissioned but I usually have a selection in my studio
