St John's Hall Ballyvaughan
around the 1950's it was noted that a schoolhouse was badly needed in ballyvaughan, thanks to the foesight of three gentlmen in Ballyvaughan,plans were put into action to acquire a schoolhouse. Land had to be purchased;an application to purchase the site was made to a Mr Thomas Skerrrit of Finvarra. A wealthy land owner, also an irish Magistrate, who owned most of the lands in the Drumcreehy area.The land was purchased with the valuation of 1 shilling with a cost per annum of 7 shilling.Rev. Pat Ryder made the first application for the establishment of the school in 1952. in 1850 a grant was given for a school for 200 pupils.Work commenced in 1852 and was completed in 1854.The number of rooms in the school was two, each room measured 34ft x 18ft.The school would encompass children in a radius of seven miles. One of the classrooms would take in boys and girls from infants to third grade. the other classroom would accommodate fourthyear students to leaving class standard.The school was vested to Rev. P.Ryder, he was the manager of the school and the first teacher was Mr Pat Reardon.
