The Montessori Method of teaching has been time tested for almost one hundred years and has achieved success with children around the world. At Little Scholars, Children learn at their own pace and developmental level and have the unique opportunity to fulfil their potential and learn true life-lasting values and skills. Operating since 2006, Little Scholars is a purpose-built pre-school in a quiet cul-de-sac area situated in Drumillard Housing Estate. Our staff are highly qualified and have the utmost respect for all children as individuals, and also love their jobs. Julieanne (Black) Reel is the proprietor. Julieanne has almost 20 years experience working with children. Room Leader Stacey Glennon & Assistant Sinead Toal accompany Julieanne in the day-to-day running of the service. We adhere to Siolta: The National Quality Framework and Aister’s Early Curriculum Framework. The Health Board Inspection team have commended us on our level of compliance with government regulations over the years. “We provide a welcoming, friendly and cheerful atmosphere – its plain to see that the children are genuinely happy to be here”. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Key stages of each child’s development are encouraged daily with the use of: A pre-planned but flexible curriculum based on systematic observations. Specialized Equipment only found in a Montessori Pre-School. Tools to encourage manipulative, creative, imagination & physical play. A daily routine balancing play, exploration, learning and meditation/rest. Spacious & aesthetically pleasing indoor & outdoor facilities. Our own invented innovative workshops in music & dance, fitness & drama. “We promote and encourage problem solving & only offer help & suggestions when a child is having difficulty & need our help”. Why Choose Montessori? The Children work with specifically designed equipment which is graded in difficulty, self-correcting and designed for success to instil a love of learning. Practical life skills are taught, basic every-day skills performed in the home and grace and courtesy which encourages independence. Sensorial exercises are practiced in which the child’s 5 sense are stimulated and developed. Language & Math: basic pre-reading and pre-writing skills are taught. Language is developed and basic numerical work is introduced. Music, Art and Culture: a wide variety of craftwork is exercised and children are introduced to songs and rhymes. They also learn basic geography, history, botany and zoology, where they gain an understanding of the world and learn to love, respect and care for themselves, their environment, animals and their fellow human beings. A record book is kept for each child to record their learning progress. It shows photographs of them at work or at play and describes the learning involved. This book is presented to the parent at the end of year graduation ceremony. The graduation ceremony takes place at the end of June. Your child will accept his certificate from Little Scholars wearing full gown and cap. The Children perform a little show for the parents, grandparents etc which is usually followed by a Puppet Show, Magician & light refreshments. This is a very proud day for Parents and Children.

Drumhowan Geraldines are a rural GAA club in the heart of Co. Monaghan. We are situated in the Parish of Tullycorbet. There are two clubs in the parish. We cater for the rural areas in the north and south of the parish. Our pitch Pairc Mhic Eoin is situated to the southern end of the parish an equal distance from both the towns of Ballybay(parish town) and Castleblayney. We are a small club with 40 adult playing members and 44 juvenile members and 175 adult non playing members. At the minute we have 28 coaches qualified at foundation level, however all of these are not at present actively coaching. At level 1 there are 7 coaches qualified, while we have 3 level 2 coaches. At present we field 2 adult teams, an U14, U12, U10 and U8 teams under our own name. We are also amalgamated with our fellow parishioners Ballybay at U16 and Minor. To fund the club each year our main income is a Friends of Drumhowan Scheme. We have 120 people who play €120 a year. To supplement the running costs of the club we also have 2 or 3 other small event a year. One example of this is our annual All-Ireland Football Draw. At present we have 1 full sized playing pitch and a fully floodlit training pitch (full sized juvenile pitch). Our main pitch has a covered stand and grass banks and can hold around 1500 spectators with parking for around 500 cars. We also have four dressing rooms, a referee’s room and a fitness suite that still has to be equipped. At present we are currently completing our refurbishment of our community centre in partnership with our local community group.

Thai cooking places emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components. The spiciness of Thai cuisine is well known. As with other Asian cuisines, balance, detail and variety are of great significance to Thai chefs. Thai food is known for its balance of three to four fundamental taste senses in each dish or the overall meal: sour, sweet, salty, and bitter. As an acknowledged expert of Thai cuisine, David Thompson, explains Thai food (from a Western perspective): "Thai food ain't about simplicity. It's about the juggling of disparate elements to create a harmonious finish. Like a complex musical chord it's got to have a smooth surface but it doesn't matter what's happening underneath. Simplicity isn't the dictum here, at all. Some westerners think it's a jumble of flavours, but to a Thai that's important, it's the complexity they delight in.
