The Cahersiveen O'Connell team was founded on December 10th 1890 and adapted the colours of black and amber. Cahersiveen entered the county championship and were declared winners in 1896. In 1929 Cahersiveen Christian Brothers school were given permission to enter a team in the South Kerry Junior Championship under the name of Saint Mary's. Cahersiveen had two teams for about four years but due to emigration numbers dwindled and the town was only able to field one team. From 1933 to the present day Saint Mary's football club has represented Cahersiveen on the playing fields of Kerry. In 1947 the club purchased a playing field in the West end and the Con Keating Park was officially opened on August 6th 1950.
