The first of the Allingham family to live here was Florinda Allingham, who named the property Allingham Lodge in the 1840's. Florinda Allingham lived here in Allingham Lodge and was a close relative of William Allingham the Poet. Her father Edward Allingham lived at Magheracar but both Florinda and her father originally lived at a country house called Stonewold beside the Kathleen's Falls Hydro Electric Station in Ballyshannon.
