The History of Athlone Credit Union Limited
Founded in 1966, Athlone Credit Union Limited is one of the oldest credit unions in the country. At that time it operated from above Foys Shop on Church Street. In the mid 1970s owing to the growth of the credit union, the main office was moved to Friary Lane. In the mid 1990s, the credit union moved again to where it is currently located in Northgate Street and now boasts assets of just under €60mln and a membership base of over fourteen thousand. Athlone Credit Union Limited is affiliated to the Irish League of Credit Unions and is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
