This site was slightly east of the current Kilcock station. A replacement station opened in 1850 west of the town, where the old N4 crosses the canal and railway, but closed in 1963. Opened by the Dublin and Drogheda Railway, then run by the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) until 1950. The GNR(I) was then taken over by the Irish and Northern Irish Governments and was run through the Great Northern Railway Board until 1958. Upon the dissolution of the GNRB those portions of the former GNR(I) within the Irish Republic passed to the Coras Iompair Éireann. Closed for goods traffic on 2 December 1974.Description and viaductThe station has two lines which run through Balbriggan. A viaduct is nearby and can be viewed by a walkway on either side. The right side of the walkway (the railway side) can be entered by stairs at balbriggan beach. The left side (the walking side) can be entered by a path on the public road. The road to the viaduct is quay street. The station currently has 2 platforms, platform 1 has yellow lines, a ticket vending machine with turnstiles and can be entered by the main station house. Platform 2 has to be entered by a bridge over the tracks and also has yellow lines. Each platform has real time information screens based on the progress of trains. The platforms have loudspeakers to make announcements. It is located on the Dublin to Belfast railway line. It is a stop for some commuter services and sometimes a terminus. An enterprise may pass by hourly or some tara mines freight trains at some times.

DART and South Eastern Commuter (Dublin Connolly to Arklow) services also serve the station. As do InterCity services from Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort.FacilitiesThe station has two through platforms, 1 and 2. Until 2007, terminal Platform 3 was occasionally used for special services. A fourth platform also existed, but was unsuitable for modern trains and was used as a siding. This platform (and platform 5, which had been closed for some years and later converted into a car park) has been used as a set for movies including Michael Collins, Angela's Ashes, Nora and the 2005 remake Lassie. In summer 2008, Platform 3 was filled in as part of the station's partial renovation while the disused Platform 4 was shortened.The station also has a café on the southbound platform. This was closed during autumn 2006, and reopened as SoBo Café in February 2007. A Spar convenience store, which had been operational in the station for many years, closed in February 2008.
