Rotary Tree of Remembrance

Rotary Tree of Remembrance

St Patricks Street,, Cork ,
The Rotary Clubs of Cork and Bishopstown jointly run the Remembrance Tree Opposite Brown Thomas on Patrick St every Christmas. Macroom E Enterprise Centre & Ballincollig Network Group and their Communities are supporting this project over Christmas.. People are invited to remember their loved ones in a simple yet poignant way in the midst of the Christmas rush by writing their message on yellow ribbons which are raised on the tree in colourful garlands. Whilst this is free, if you wish to make a donation we will be delighted. Funds raised will be shared with local and Rotary charities. The chosen charities this year are Marymount Hospice and St Vincent de Paul. We have raised over €210,000 for local charities over the past 9 years of the project. Prayers will be said for all those remembered on the tree on Saturday the 7th of January 2012 at 5.30pm in St Peters & Pauls Church.
Fadó Festival Bantry

Fadó Festival Bantry

Bantry, Bantry ,
This St Patrick’s weekend, Bantry will host its second Fadó Festival, re-creating Bantry of yesteryear. The scene will be set by the pubs adopting a “pre-electrification theme” and street lighting black out on Friday & Saturday night. The highlight of the Festival will undoubtedly be the street pageant of fire and acoustic splendour setting out from the waterfront and wielding its way through the streets on the Saturday night. The full programme of events is to follow but the following will give you a flavour…. The Festival will begin on Friday morning with a re-enactment of the old style fair in Bantry featuring livestock and our already renowned food-market exhibiting local artisan produce. The local businesses will be encouraged to participate in the spirit of the Festival by adorning their premises with period theme. Visitors to the area will also be invited to adopt the theme via their dress etc.
