Casement Aerodrome or Baldonnel Aerodrome is a military airfield to the south west of Dublin, Ireland situated off the N7 main road route to the south and south west. It is the headquarters and the sole airfield of the Irish Air Corps, and is also used for other government purposes. It is the property of the Irish Department of Defence.HistoryThe airfield was first laid out in 1917 and was used by the Royal Flying Corps . It was part of the RAF's Ireland Command.The aerodrome was originally run by two pilots from the Royal Air Force. The airfield was the one from which the first successful east-west Atlantic crossing by a Junkers W33 aeroplane, the Bremen, took off on 12 April 1928 with Baron Hünefeld, Hermann Köhl and Captain James Fitzmaurice as co-pilot, as well as the first Aer Lingus flight took place on May 27, 1936. It was also the destination at which Douglas Corrigan landed on his famous 'wrong way' flight across the Atlantic.

Its traffic is primarily business/executive as well as private and commercial training.Formerly developed by Jim Mansfield, the airport was seized by the National Asset Management Agency in 2011.HistoryWeston Aerodrome was originally founded in 1931 by Darby Kennedy, who, from 1946, operated a de Havilland Dragon and several Dragon Rapide aircraft commercially from the Weston flying field, operated under the name Weston Ltd. The charter flights frequently took the biplane airliners to airfields in the United Kingdom. The commercial flight operation ceased in the late 1950s.Also operated from the airfield was a flying school for private pilots with several Tiger Moth trainer biplanes, an Auster high-wing monoplane and from 1960 two Morane-Saulnier-Rallye four-seater low-winged aeroplanes.

Founded in 1931 as a grass strip aerodrome it has developed over the years to elevate its position in Ireland’s Aviation Sector. Weston Airport lies between Celbridge and Lucan, just off Exit 5 on the M4. The Airport is located on approximately 250 acres of land to the West of Dublin City Centre. It incorporates about 9000m2 of operations buildings, an air traffic control tower, three large aircraft hangars and has over 40 based aircraft. Currently Dublin Weston Airport has 15 direct employees with another 100 indirect jobs arising from airport tenancies and related activities.about 3 To date the Airport has increased both capability and infrastructure to become a major part of Ireland’s national air transport infrastructure. The Airport is now fully operational as a public licensed airport with full terminal facilities. Our commitment is to provide the highest standard of service to our clients and we are endeavouring to achieve those high standards with the development of our new Weston Bar and Restaurant, this provides the perfect setting for a relaxing meal after a long flight.
