Dicksboro GAA Club

Dicksboro GAA Club

Palmerstown, Kilkenny ,
According to Gerry O'Neill's excellent book, "Up the Boro, Dicksboro GAA Club 1909-2009", Dicksboro Gaa Club came into existence in the Autumn of 1909 in the townland of that name, an area on the Kilcreene Road on the border of Drakelands. Its origins sprang, as did those of many other GAA clubs throughout the length and breadth of Ireland, from the old crossroads tradition of young people meeting on Summer evenings in search of recreation. In 1981, Dicksboro GAA purchased just over nine acres from Kilkenny County Council for the princely sum of £43,570 and in 1983 development work commenced on our new fields and clubhouse which were opened in 1990. Since that time the club has continued to develop the grounds and has recently erected a Hurling Wall. But a club is more than the facilities and great care has been placed in providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all our players from Under 6 to adult levels to ensure that they get the most from our Gaelic Games. The huge volume of work carried out by volunteer workers is paying off with considerable success at underage level in recent years, including numerous County Championship wins and the National Roinn'A' Feile title in 2009. Many of our young players have played for Kilkenny at different age levels and the current Kilkenny Minor All Ireland Captain, Cillian Buckley along with Ollie Walsh and Gary Gaule are members of the club.
