Castle Villa AFC are a soccer team based in Castledermot, Co. Kildare, Ireland. Castle Villa was formed by, amongst others, Walter Brookes in 1969. Commonly known as 'The Villa', there are three senior teams and many underage teams, ranging from U8's to U17's. Mullarney Park, located on the Baltinglass road out of Castledermot, is the home pitch which has excellent all weather pitches and clubhouse facilities. Castle Villa's First Team currently play in the Kildare & District Football League - Senior Division, and won the 2006 league title, by beating Carbury in the final game of the season 4-0. They won the Lumsden League Cup in 2009, when the League changed to a summer Season, coming from behind three times to defeat Liffey Celtic in extra time. Our reserves will play in Division 3 of the KDFL next season, having beaten all-comers in claiming the Division 4 this season. Villa have taken the league and cup double twice, in 1999 and 2001, and won the premier division cup three years in a row in the nineties among many other honours. The club colours are blue and white. The current first team manager is Liam Murphy and the current captain of the senior team is Anthony Lawler. The reserve team, and the over-35's are both managed by Damien Byrne. Some great former players for Castle Villa include 'Blocker' Hickey, Martin Farrell Snr, and John Flynn who has played for Kildare County FC in the Eircom League as goalkeeper and Bryan Byrne who has also played for Kildare County FC in the Eircom League and for New England Revolution in the MLS in the USA.
