The Irish Coast Guard (IRCG) has responsibility for our national system of marine emergency management in Ireland's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and inland waterways. It is responsible for response to, and coordination of, maritime accidents which require Search & Rescue and Counter Pollution & Salvage operations. It also has responsibility for vessel traffic monitoring. Operations in respect of maritime security, illegal drug trafficking, illegal migration and fisheries enforcement are coordinated by other bodies within the Irish government.

Retained is the name given to Part-Time Firefighters who are on call 24/7 365 days of the year. We are never off call except when on Personal Holidays. We have 9 of a Crew, 1 Station Officer, 1 Sub-Officer, 1 Driver-Mechanic and 6 Firefighters who have full time jobs in the Town of Bundoran and when a 999/112 call arises, our pagers are activated and we can turn out in less than 5 minutes.
