Lucan Pitch and Putt Club

Lucan Pitch and Putt Club

12th Lock, Newcastle Road, Lucan ,
This year Lucan Pitch and Putt Club celebrates its Golden Jubilee . From very small beginnings the Club, situated at the 12th Lock along the banks of the Grand Canal, has developed into a prosperous and very successful sporting facility. Catering for all ages it welcomes one and all from the Lucan area and its environs. The club has approximately 250 members, and is one of the largest P.P.U.I. affiliated clubs in the country. Membership is open to those as young as 8 years to as old as you wish and its members willingly extend a very warm welcome into its ever friendly surroundings. Throughout the years the Club has achieved National, Provincial and County titles which include several All Ireland Championship triumphs: Eamon Tully (1968 Strokeplay) Gus Carolan (1974 & 1975 Strokeplay), Marie Ruddy (1982 Strokeplay), Anthony Malone (1989 & 1991 Strokeplay) and Marian Marks (1995 Matchplay). For those new to the game Lucan is equipped with fully qualified coaches, including multiple Dublin Matchplay winner Philip Sweeney, and these coaches can meet with members on request or members are free to drop in at the special designated times. The club owns its own 18 hole championship course and competitions are organised for members all year round. From the major competitions and weekly events to the Open and Scratch Cup, all played between St. Patrick's weekend and September, to the Turkey competitions from October until Christmas and also the Winter Leagues during months of January and February. With such a packed fixture list it's safe to say you'll never be short of a competition to play in. Green fees too are available with members and on occasion there is also space made available for any societies who wish to play the course. The clubhouse with bar facilities is at the disposal of its members and friends for celebrations and social occasions and is an ideal opportunity to get to know the fellow members, with entertainment arranged most weekends. The function room is also available for hire for those special functions and being a member gives you an extra special reduced rate. So to the course, this should be your primary reason for joining and it is the club's greatest asset. Lucan’s greens are renowned for their speed and trueness and will sort out the good from the great putters in the game. The course is split into two halves, the top & the bottom half of the course. The very 1st hole is a short hole just 32 metres and yet there is a sizeable bunker just waiting to catch those a little short. The course is an open one and the shots on display really tests a player's ability to vary their game, short holes and long, high mounds and deep bunkers, large hedges and stoned walls that mark the boundary in the lower half of the course. The course has reached the standard to host National Championships and its not hard to see why. The course has lots to offer from the experienced player to the complete novice and a quick look around the grounds signifies the undoubted hard work that goes in, to make it the wonderful course it is.
