Kinvara Open Mic

Kinvara Open Mic

Johnston's Hostel on the Main Road, Kinvara ,
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...... (Pretty neat, huh?) The good people of Kinvara decided to bring some sort of fluorescent light into the lives of the young people in the area. Thus, Open Mic was born. It was a little slow to start, but as most great things go it grew and grew, and is now a massive event in the town. The first Sunday of every month from August to May, the talent gathers at Johnson's Hostel in the heart of Kinvara for a night for fun, laughter and entertainment. We attract different types of performers who sing, play, recite poetry (not to mention beatbox) and a host of other different talents. In 2007 we held a big concert in the local hall to raise money for our very own sound system. Also, we recently managed to get a projector for the hall as well. So now the show is even better than ever. For a recession-busting fee of €2, you will surely enjoy the night and be left wanting more! Y'all come back now!
The Ark, Kinvara

The Ark, Kinvara

Main St, Kinvara ,
There is a lot of excitement building at THE ARK a new pop up shop run by C.H.I.C.K. The Cultural and Heritage Informative Centre Kinvara is a non profit group, the brainchild of Maeve Johnston and Anna O’Donnell . It will be opening on Friday the 16th of August on the Main Street Kinvara. Its launch coincides with the Cruinniu na Mbad, a traditional Festival of the Boats held in Kinvara each August. The aim of the organisation is to promote, culture, heritage and the dissemination of information relating to Kinvara and its environs. It is a very exciting environment, as it is a traditional shop complete with fittings of the past century. In addition, it is an attempt to keep the integrity of the main street of a small village while preserving an intact heritage location. The shop will afford the community the opportunity to avail of space for exhibits of local artists, craftspeople, writers and musicians, while also offering them a place to sell. This will assist the artisans with exposure and income. It will also be a location where locals and tourists can find out about venues, events and businesses that add to the rich culture and heritage of south Galway and north Clare.
