Ireland's 9/11 National Memorial

Dublin Road, Ballaghaderreen ,
Irelands 9/11 Memorial is located at the Fire Station, Dublin Rd, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon, Republic of Ireland. It is Dedicated to the Members of the Fire and Emergency Services of New York City who paid the Ultimate Sacrifice on Sept 11th 2001. This Memorial was Unveiled and Dedicated by Mr. Daniel Rooney, Ambassador of the United States of America to Ireland on 27th April 2012 Fire Fighters across the World have an inexplicable link to each other and form what has become a “Brotherhood”. The link between Irish Fire and Emergency Services and those of the USA have an even stronger link following Generations of Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, Uncles and Cousins who Emigrated to the USA from Ireland and helped to form those Services into what they are today, protecting and serving the Citizens of The United States and those who visit the USA in peace. For those reasons it is fitting that this Memorial is in place and stands as a reminder to us how those in the Fire and Emergency Services consider the welfare of the public before that of themselves and how they put themselves in Mortal Danger for the benefit of others. This Memorial was designed by the Fire Fighters of Ballaghaderreen as a mark of Respect to their fallen colleagues from FDNY, NYPD, Paramedics and others who answered the call on that fateful day. Ar dheis Dé go raibh siad (May they Rest in Peace) Ballaghaderreen Fire Station is operated by a part time crew of nine who respond to Emergency Calls by way of radio operated alerters/pagers. The Crew is made up of Station Officer, Sub-Station Officer, Driver/Pump Operator x2, and five fire fighters. The Incidents they are called to include False alarms (good intent), Chimney Fires, Compartment (building) Fires, Wild Fires in Forestry and Bog lands, Road Traffic Crashes, Rescue of People, Animal Rescue, Building Collapse, Medical Emergencies, Body Recovery, Malicious calls and indeed any incident where there may be danger of injury or death to People or Animals. The Fire Fighters from Ballaghaderreen Fire Station are trained and practiced in all Emergencies and include Medical First Responders and Cardiac First Responders. They carry on board an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) along with other life saving equipment. The Fire Fighters of Ballaghaderreen Respond to any Emergency in a totally Professional and Caring manner showing Respect and Dignity to all.
