Dublin Spitfires was established in the Autumn of 2012 through the efforts of one Woman of which had prior experience skating for a local roller derby league. She was inspired by the existence of many skater-owned derby leagues across the country and decided it was time to pursue their own league under the women’s flat-track derby motto hailed throughout the country: “By the skaters, for the skaters!” Dublin Spitfires is owned, managed and operated entirely by the skaters themselves, via an elected board of governors and numerous skater-led committees; all working together for the good of the league and to make our practices and bouts happen! Dublin Spitfires league exists to provide an opportunity for women on the east coast of Ireland to participate in the challenging and exciting sport of roller derby.
